A record number of 13.400 participants from 55 countries have registered for the 20th Wizz Air Skopje Marathon, said Kire Sinadinovski, the marathon’s director, at a press conference Thursday.
“We have broken the record set in 2019, when we had 12.450 participants. This is also a big increase compared to last year when we had 11.000 participants. There is a lot of interest both among domestic and foreign runners,” Sinadinovski said.
This year’s event is supported by the Ministry of Sport.
“As the Sport Minister I can say that from now on, at least for as long as I am Minister, this marathon will have our support since we nurture the same values, values that we at the Ministry want to be led by and serve as an example in society. I believe that this year’s marathon will be successful like the ones before,” Minister of Sport Borko Ristovski said at the press conference.
The 2024 Wizz Air Skopje Marathon will be held on Sunday at 8 am. A marathon, half marathon, relay marathon, and a 5km race will be held as part of the event.
Participants in the Wizz Air Skopje Marathon will be able to pick up their starter kits on Friday and Saturday.
The country’s best marathon runner, Dario Ivanovski, is also expected to participate in the marathon after recovering from an injury suffered at the Paris Olympics.
