Nine wildfires were reported to the Crisis Management Center on Wednesday, including several dumpster fires, brush fires, and forest fires, the CMC said Thursday. It also warned beekeepers to cover their hives before the mosquito spraying in Skopje this weekend.
According to the CMC release, Skopje firefighters put out a fire spreading on a 200 m2 landfill in the village of Batinci. They also extinghuished a brush fire in Bardovci.
In Bitola, a brush fire was reported near the Pelagonija Petrol gas station, and in Strumica, near the village of Bansko, a landfill burned along with nearby maple trees and leaf litter.
Firefighters also put out an illegal dumpster fire near the village of Raec in the Kavadarci area and a fire where cables and tires burned near a factory in Kochani. There was also a dumpster fire in Ohrid’s Teferikj and a brush fire near the village of Romanovce.
The CMC also said that early in the morning of Sept. 28 and 29, Skopje authorities will conduct an aerial spraying of insecticide against adult mosquitoes.
From Sept. 30 to Oct. 3, the adulticide will be sprayed from the ground, depending on weather conditions.
Beekeepers are advised to protect their bees from exposure, the CMC said.
